About the role
The English Specialist Primary Curriculum Lead makes a significant contribution to the development and delivery of the PGCE Primary English programme, including a subject specialist strand. You will teach across postgraduate teacher education provision and, where appropriate, contribute to the professional studies strand, working closely with partnership schools to support the professional development of student teachers across a range of primary settings.
The role includes contributing to the ongoing review and development of the PGCE curriculum, supporting teaching quality assurance requirements, and undertaking appropriate administrative and professional duties within the School. The post holder will maintain a strong awareness of current research and scholarship to support high‑quality teaching and may contribute, where appropriate, to engagement and impact activity linked to schools, teachers and continuing professional development.
About you
You will have a good first degree and a masters degree in a relevant subject area, Qualified Teacher Status, and significant, successful experience of teaching in schools within the relevant age phase. You will also have experience of initial teacher education in a school or higher education context, alongside the ability to design and deliver effective learning programmes and to mentor, advise and motivate student teachers. A commitment to holding, or working towards, an appropriate higher education teaching qualification is essential.
You will bring strong interpersonal and communication skills, confidence in the use of IT to support teaching and administration, and a high level of proficiency in English appropriate for academic teaching and professional collaboration. Experience of postgraduate programme development, CPD delivery or consultancy, and an interest in doctoral study would be advantageous, along with a willingness to contribute to the wider academic and professional activities of the School.
