Primary Purpose To carry out the duties of Merlin Training Facility Senior Pilot (SP) and Executive Officer (XO). Designated Functions The functions of the SP MTF are: To oversee the planning and curriculum of pilot training for Mk2 Merlin courses and MHF Currency and operational demands. Principle Tasks The SP MTF is to execute the following tasks: To carry out the duties of a Squadron Qualified Simulator Helicopter Instructor (QSHI) and Control Console (ICC) Operator. To oversee all simulator pilot aircrew programming on a daily and weekly basis to ensure that training is conducted fairly and efficiently. Conduct simulator operations and ground training as required to maintain currency and competencies iaw MRP/MHF TD. To identify and inform the OiC MTF of any training required to meet the necessary tasks and improve performance. To maintain MTF Pilot currency iaw MRP. Maintain MTF pilot instructor (QSHI) standardisation and skills levels. To train and maintain ICC qualifications for instructors/operators of the front seat simulator devices. Superiors The SP MTF is accountable to the Officer in Charge Merlin Training Facility of 824 Naval Air Squadron. Organisation 824 NAS organisation held here. Authority The SP MTF has authority over all MTF pilot aircrew instructors relating to student programming, scheduling and curriculum management with the exception of the OICMTF. In respect of MTF management and administration, the SP MTF has authority over all Aircrew instructors and maintainer instructors. Through OIC MTF, the SP MTF is authorised to liaise with: All Culdrose departments. At the appropriate level, with staffs of NC, Merlin Force HQ, Merlin DT, DAPS, NAC training units, Squadrons and establishments. Appropriate personnel in industry supplying services and equipment to 824 MTF (MOD). Student Deputy This role does not have a student deputy.
