We are a multi-award-winning arts charity, a vibrant hub at the heart of city life, inspiring, exploring, and engaging through live performance and creative projects.
We curate a diverse programme including musical theatre, music, dance, comedy, theatre, spoken word, and festivals for local audiences and visitors, establishing our place as a key arts destination in the North-east of Scotland.
We believe engaging in the arts benefits everyone. Our Take Part workshops and sessions, including Beats and Rhymes, underline our commitment to arts without boundaries, ensuring arts participation is accessible to all.
Our workshops have transformed lives across the city and North-east through creative projects.
Our Mission is to inspire, stimulate, and entertain diverse audiences through inclusive, creative work.
Our Vision centers on placing creativity and culture at the core of inclusive, transformational change in the North-east.
About the Role
As part of our Take Part programme, Aberdeen Performing Arts delivers a year-round schedule of creative workshops for children and young people aged 4-18.
We seek an experienced freelance youth music facilitator to join our Beats and Rhymes team, supporting our participatory music-making programme for young people in S1–S6. The workshops focus on rap and music production, providing a powerful outlet for self-expression and creativity.
We are looking for someone with strong expertise in lyric writing to complement our existing team skills.
Participants are encouraged to write lyrics in their own words, often incorporating Doric, a local dialect, to accompany group music creation.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about using music to help young people build confidence, creativity, and teamwork skills.
The facilitator will work as part of a multi-skilled team responsible for planning and delivering one workshop per week, held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm to 8 pm during school terms at Tutti Studio, Music Hall. Facilitators share delivery duties to ensure two facilitators are present at each session, delivering approximately five sessions per term.
Additionally, facilitators will work with participants to create a piece of work for the Light the Blue youth arts festival, previously in the form of lyric exhibitions with accompanying music accessible via QR code.
