Overview
The Emergency Duty Team is a small bespoke service that responds to emergencies out of hours. As a generic team, it includes adult social care, childcare and assessments under the Mental Health Act. Being an Approved Mental Health Professional is advantageous for statutory work under the Mental Health Act; if appointed to this post you will receive training to become one, a mandatory requirement for working in the Emergency Duty Team. This role offers Social Workers the opportunity to practice generically, applying all skills and knowledge gained in your Social Work training. Support and training will be provided for those whose experience lies in either adult or child social care to learn other areas of practice.
Emergency Duty Team responsibilities include:
* Respond to emergencies that cannot wait until the next working day, such as Mental Health Act assessments, child in need/child protection, and adult safeguarding.
* Triage, risk assess and prioritise cases.
* Provide excellent communication skills in all forms – verbal, electronic and written.
* Use IT confidently, as it is the key method of communicating work to daytime colleagues.
* Work autonomously during overnight shifts, with 24/7 management support.
* Cover over 126 hours per week, including varying hours of evening/nights during the week and days/nights at weekends.
* Work on bank holidays, paid at double time and include an enhancement for weekend working (a third on top of your main salary).
Qualifications
* Minimum of 3 years post‑qualifying experience.
* Have obtained your first year ASYE/NIPE as a newly qualified Social Worker.
* Registered with Social Work England or HCPC as a practising Social Worker or Occupational Therapist.
* Being an Approved Mental Health Professional is advantageous; training will be provided if appointed.
Benefits
* Competitive salary.
* Generous holiday entitlement.
* Health and wellbeing services, including fast‑track physiotherapy and a free counselling service.
* Flexible working opportunities including flexi‑time, part‑time, remote and hybrid working – dependent on your job role and business need.
* Financial benefits such as the Norfolk Rewards employee discount programme, a Blue Light card for Fire Service and Social Care Workers, relocation expenses (where applicable), and an advance on expenses if you travel for work.
* Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution, life assurance, death in service payments, and dependants’ pensions.
* Tax‑efficient ways of getting extra pension and new bikes.
* Access to our tax‑efficient car lease scheme for greener travel.
* Payment if you refer someone you know to a hard‑to‑fill job.
