We are seeking a skilled a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain, service, and repair a wide range of ground support equipment. This hands-on role is ideal for a technician with strong heavy vehicle, plant, or similar mechanical experience, looking to work on essential airport equipment that directly impacts aircraft turnaround times and operational safety.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and safety checks in line with OEM standards
* Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems (12/24V)
* Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
* Use diagnostic tools to confirm and resolve faults effectively
* Respond to breakdowns at airport or customer sites in a timely and professional manner
* Complete accurate job cards, parts requests, and service records
* Work safely in line with company procedures, airport rules, and health & safety standards
Equipment You Will Work On
* Tow tractors, belt loaders, baggage tractors, and aircraft stairs
* Ground power units (GPU), air start units (ASU), and air conditioning units (ACU)
* Aircraft de-icers and specialist airport maintenance equipment
* Electric and hybrid GSE as the industry transitions to sustainable operations
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Class 1 HGV Licence essential
* Experience in HGV, bus, plant, construction equipment, forklift, or GSE maintenance
* Strong knowledge of hydraulics, engines, drivetrains, and basic auto-electrics
* Ability to interpret schematics and technical manuals
* Customer-focused and calm under pressure, with strong prioritisation skills
* Full UK driving licence
* Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Gatwick Airport
