We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Officer (XO-SDPO) to join our team aboard an RFA vessel supporting an exciting project. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Deck Department, including bridge watchkeeping, cargo operations, and maintaining high standards of vessel upkeep.
Main Accountabilities
1. Manage the organisation, administration, and operational readiness of Ship Operations.
2. Direct the management of seamanship activities, ensuring that the required state of readiness is maintained at all times.
3. Ensure that general ship husbandry, the material condition, and serviceability of all ship operations equipment, machinery, and nominated areas are maintained to the required standard.
4. Plan and manage the ship's programme and operational tasks, ensuring commitments are completed safely and efficiently.
5. Manage the operational sea safety training requirements in accordance with the continuation training guide.
6. Oversee the effectiveness, welfare, safety, discipline, and training of embarked Officer Cadets.
7. Coordinate the security organisation as per relevant doctrine, with induction/familiarisation provided.
8. In consultation with the Master, be responsible for correct loading, discharge, and ballasting of the ship, considering stress, strain, and stability.
9. Ensure all cargo, stores, and deck equipment are secure before departure, and that hatches, holds, and openings are watertight.
Qualifications and Experience Needed:
1. Ability to achieve SC Clearance as a UK National
2. NI SDPO qualification with demonstrable previous experience
3. Certificate of Competence as Chief Officer (Unlimited)
4. STCW Personal Survival Techniques (5-year refresher)
5. STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (5-year refresher)
6. STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (5-year refresher)
7. STCW Certificate in Survival Craft (5-year refresher)
8. STCW Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (5-year refresher)
9. STCW Elementary First Aid
10. Unrestricted ENG 1
11. Valid Passport
12. Ship’s Safety Officer Certificate – Preferred
13. Ship’s Security Officer Certificate – Preferred
