Overview
Environment, Health and Safety Manager - 12 months fixed term contract. Lead the HSE function within British Airways' Engineering Safety and Compliance team, driving safety strategy and a positive, safe culture across the organisation.
What You’ll Do
* Act as the leader for Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) matters across Engineering, engaging with internal teams, suppliers, customers, and regulators (e.g. CAA, HSE, EA).
* Develop, influence, and implement the Engineering HSE strategy and Management System.
* Align decisions with directorate-level objectives to deliver positive outcomes across the business.
* Lead and manage HSE professionals, influencing the Engineering Leadership Team to achieve strategic goals.
* Oversee group activities including leading complex investigations into serious incidents, driving preventative actions and innovative solutions.
* Interpret technical, regulatory, manufacturer (OEM), and industry guidance through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
* Monitor and improve safety, risk, and quality performance through audits, reporting, and improvement planning.
* Communicate safety performance to senior stakeholders, recommending actions and influencing cross-functional solutions in complex areas.
Your Experience and Qualifications
* Degree level qualification in a similar industry.
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 H&S qualification.
* ISEP or equivalent Level 3 environmental qualification.
* Ability to hold an airside pass.
* Structured leadership training is desirable.
* Ideally hold or working towards Chartered membership of a professional body (e.g. IOSH, ISEP).

* Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication; ability to interpret technical information.
* Technical application of HSE regulations including COSHH, DSEAR and HAVS for aircraft maintenance.
* Leadership and management of a team; strong investigative skills.
* Experience in risk assessing complex activities and leading H, S and E audits.
* Strong planning and organisational skills; detailed knowledge of working with Health & Safety and Environment Agency and related regulations.
* Knowledge of Engineering and aircraft maintenance practices; experience in contract management of suppliers.
