Main duties
We are seeking a highly motivated clinical pharmacist to join our team. Responsibilities include:
* Co-developing and improving pharmacy services under the guidance of lead clinical pharmacists.
* Providing professional cover and training to junior and pre-registration pharmacists.
* Contributing to reporting and analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance and risk management.
* Participating in service development through projects, audits and education within a multidisciplinary team.
* Engaging in ongoing learning to attain required skills for personal development.
* Working across rotations and supporting near-patient care and safe transition of medicines at admission and discharge.
Job responsibilities
Post Title: Senior Clinical Pharmacist
Grade: Band 7 (plus Emergency Duty Commitment (EDC))
Location: Base Site University Hospital Lewisham (for weekend working and on-call duties)
Job Purpose: To deliver, develop and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to the named Trust directorate and to develop skills to become a lead clinical pharmacist.
* Accountable to: Director of Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager
* Responsible to: Lead Pharmacists
* Supervises: Junior pharmacists / Trainee Pharmacists / Ward-Based Pharmacy Technicians / Undergraduate Pharmacy Students
* Liaises with: All Pharmacy staff, clinical staff on ward and outpatient areas, medical and nursing staff, all directorates, other healthcare professionals
6. Duties and Responsibilities – Clinical Practice
* Provide and develop clinical pharmacy services to promote safe, effective and cost-conscious prescribing and medicine use.
* Ensure quality of patient care and deputise for Lead Pharmacists in their absence.
* Support ward-based technicians, develop medicines management methods for directorates.
* Assist with local clinical guidelines; participate in clinical and departmental audits and provide feedback.
* Participate in ward rounds to proactively address drug-related issues; follow legal, ethical, professional and employer codes of conduct.
6. Duties and Responsibilities – Education and Training
* Act as tutor and educational facilitator for the Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice.
* Provide support for junior and trainee pharmacists during rotations, including informal teaching and assessment.
* Provide teaching and training to pharmacy, ward and clinical staff.

Qualifications & Training
Essential
* B. Pharm / M. Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or equivalent
* Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent) or plan to complete within 12 months of appointment
* Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
Desirable
* Post-Graduate Qualification in Independent Prescribing
Experience
Essential
* Minimum of 2 years post-registration hospital pharmacy experience
* Experience in clinical pharmacy across multiple specialities
* Experience supervising/training others
* Experience in clinical audits and literature evaluations
Desirable
* Minimum of 3 years post-registration hospital pharmacy experience
* Experience delivering formal education and training
* Development of evidence-based guidelines
* Experience screening and managing high-cost drug prescriptions
