Behaviour Support Assistant Location: Durham Salary: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience) Start Date: September 2026 Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible A supportive and inclusive school in Durham is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team. This Behaviour Support Assistant role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people, promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning. The successful Behaviour Support Assistant will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and pupils to provide targeted behavioural and emotional support. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will help pupils develop confidence, resilience and strategies to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Key Responsibilities of the Behaviour Support Assistant: Supporting pupils with behavioural, social and emotional needs. Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. Promoting positive behaviour and engagement in learning. Using de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies. Supporting pupils who may display behaviours that are challenging. Implementing behaviour support plans and interventions. Building positive and professional relationships with pupils, staff and parents. Helping to maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment. The Ideal Behaviour Support Assistant Will: Have previous experience working with children or young people. Have experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs or behaviours that are challenging. Be patient, resilient and adaptable in approach. Have strong communication and behaviour management skills. Hold Team Teach training or be willing to undertake relevant training (desirable). Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply). Have a fully checkable work history.
