Senior Technical Author

Reporting to: Technical Publications Supervisor
Salary: Up to £39,520 (dependent on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Author to join our Engineering Product Support team in Southend-on-Sea. This role is responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving technical publications for aircraft seating and galley products, ensuring compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and internal quality expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Create, revise, and maintain technical publications, including Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs) and Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPCs).
Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ATA Spec 100, ATA iSpec 2200, S1000D, and Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100).
Update documentation to reflect design modifications, engineering changes, and customer feedback.
Produce technical illustrations using CAD data and 2D illustration software.
Proofread and quality-check documentation to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
Support electronic distribution of technical publications internally and to customers.
Liaise with external subcontractors regarding content, formatting, and quality.
Support team members and contribute to a safe, organised working environment.
Undertake other reasonable duties as required.
About You
Essential:
Educated to A-Level standard (or equivalent).
Experience within a technical, engineering, or manufacturing environment.
Strong technical writing, editing, and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to research, structure, and interpret complex technical information.
Proficient in MS Office and general IT systems.
Ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines.
Must have the right to work in the UK without the need for employer sponsorship.
Desirable:
Experience producing aerospace technical publications.
Knowledge of ATA iSpec 2200, S1000D, and Simplified Technical English.
Experience with structured authoring tools (e.g. Adobe FrameMaker).
Experience creating technical illustrations (e.g. IsoDraw).
Practical experience in an engineering or maintenance environment.
Experience with databases (e.g. Access or SQL)
