English Teacher – Full-Time, Permanent Position

Teaching Personnel is recruiting on behalf of a vibrant, inclusive secondary academy in Southampton to appoint a committed English Teacher on a full-time, permanent basis. This role offers an opportunity to join a supportive, forward-looking English department and contribute to the academic and personal development of students aged 11–16.

About the Role
You will:
* Plan and deliver engaging and challenging English lessons (KS3 & KS4), covering both Language and Literature, aligned with the academy’s well-structured curriculum.
* Foster a stimulating learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, confidence and a love of reading, writing and discussion.
* Use data and assessment to monitor pupil progress, identify needs, and provide timely feedback and support to help all students achieve.
* Contribute to the ongoing development and transformation of the English department, working collaboratively with colleagues to shape curriculum, resources and best practice.
* Participate in enrichment activities — reading initiatives, extra-curricular clubs, support for literacy and cultural capital development, benefiting from the academy’s wider enrichment programme.
* Support the school ethos of inclusion, respect, resilience and high expectations.

About the Academy
The school is a mixed 11–16 non-selective academy serving around 884 students, part of a large trust.
Following an inspection in April 2024, the academy was rated ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted. Inspectors highlighted a new, ambitious curriculum in which pupils produce high-quality work and are confident discussing what they have learned. SEND pupils are very well supported, and the school maintains a strong commitment to inclusion.
The academy’s core values - “Be Kind, Be Determined, Be Proud”- underpin its ethos and daily life. There is also a robust enrichment programme and strong community focus through the wider trust network and local hub.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for a candidate who:
* Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
* Has strong subject knowledge in English (Language & Literature) and a passion for teaching at KS3 and KS4.
* Demonstrates excellent classroom management, communication skills, and the ability to engage students of varied abilities.
* Is committed to inclusion, supporting all pupils - including those with additional needs - to achieve their potential.
* Is enthusiastic about working collaboratively to develop curriculum, resources and teaching strategies.
* Values and supports the school’s ethos and wider community aims.
