About the Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Development Scientist to provide high-level research, consultancy, and technical support to both internal and external stakeholders. The role will play a key part in advancing scientific capability, developing innovative measurement solutions, and disseminating new concepts and technical advances through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.

Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate closely with internal technical teams to deliver advanced cylinder passivation processes, calibration and testing services, and innovative research in hydrogen and carbon dioxide impurity analysis
* Lead and coordinate laboratory operations, ensuring full compliance with company policies while driving performance across quality, safety, culture, and regulatory standards
* Design, plan, and execute innovative research projects that support both existing services and emerging business opportunities, ensuring world-class traceability and measurement accuracy
* Provide expert technical consultancy to clients, particularly in the areas of cylinder passivation, hydrogen fuel cell impurity analysis, and CO₂ purity for carbon capture and storage
* Direct and oversee funded and exploratory research initiatives to strengthen scientific capability and technical leadership
* Prepare and submit high-quality R&D grant applications to secure external research funding
* Develop impactful technical presentations to support internal stage-gate and review processes
* Develop, commission, and validate new analytical instruments and methods, expanding measurement capability and diversifying service offerings
* Create and refine specialist testing methodologies to validate client products within defined technical domains
* Contribute to ongoing research programmes, supporting continuous advancement in measurement science and technology
* Support the development of advanced measurement software to enhance data capture, processing, and analytical precision
* Contribute to the production of Primary Reference Gas mixtures, ensuring compliance with UKAS accreditation and internal technical standards.

* External research funding bodies and participation in international standards development committees
* Regular engagement with customers to support the development and growth of existing and new products and services
* Collaboration with colleagues across wider engineering, research, and innovation teams to develop new measurement techniques and sustainable energy solutions
Person Specification
* Degree-qualified in a scientific discipline or able to demonstrate substantial relevant technical experience
* Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of measurement science, gas metrology, and analytical methodologies
* Experience guiding R&D concepts through structured development and commercialisation processes
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong client relationships and present complex technical information clearly
* Strong IT capability, with some programming or software exposure advantageous
* Highly organised, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities independently or within a collaborative team environment.
