Associate – Private Capital Advisory – Primaries - London We are looking for a proactive, enthusiastic and motivated individual, with at least 3 year’s relevant experience, to join the PCA Primaries team in London as an Associate. Lazard’s Private Capital Advisory Group ("PCA") is a 100 person global team operating in two core markets: private capital raising and private capital solutions. Private capital raising: PCA advises private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure investment fund managers globally in capital raising transactions for the manager’s investment vehicles. This combines advisory / investment banking activity (deal origination, due diligence, strategic and financial advice, structuring, execution) with capital markets functions (sales, distribution). Private capital solutions: Lazard advises (i) institutional investors seeking liquidity from alternative investments, or (ii) alternative investment managers seeking to recapitalize or restructure an existing investment vehicle. Lazard advises its clients with regard to the preparation of materials, financial position of alternative investment portfolios, sale or recapitalization processes and other items. Private Capital Raising – Transaction Management In general, private fundraising includes four phases: (1) winning the mandate; (2) preparing the offering to go to market; (3) marketing the vehicle to the institutional investor community globally; and (4) closing the vehicle. Associates are involved in all these aspects of fundraising, usually for multiple clients simultaneously, each of which is probably at a different phase of the fundraising process. Typically, an Associate will work with two or more of Lazard’s senior professionals on each fundraising and will have regular contact with the senior bankers and with Lazard’s institutional investor coverage professionals. Associates generally have extensive contact with Lazard’s clients, both in the preparation of marketing materials and during the marketing of the funds. As such, prospective candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. We'll trust you to: • Prepare presentation materials and pitches for prospective clients; • Meet prospective clients with senior bankers and analyse financial and qualitative information to assist in the group’s due diligence investigations prior to signing up a new mandate; • Assist in the positioning of the client’s investment strategy and the preparation of marketing materials, including the investor presentation and due diligence materials; • Design and coordinate capital raising activities and international roadshows; • Communicate regularly with Lazard’s institutional investor coverage professionals; and • Assist in preparing responses to investor due diligence requests; and maintain a database of investor commentary, feedback and interest in a particular fund. Internal Practice Development Associates are responsible for maintaining and creating essential internal practice development materials such as market-leading databases containing information on the private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure asset classes. Examples of such materials include fundraising “landscapes”, calendars that track global private equity fundraisings and matrices of competitor activity. You'll need to have: • Academic excellence - minimum 2.1 university degree classification (or equivalent if studied outside the UK); • Relevant work experience (with prior placement agent experience desired) - investment banking, private equity, etc.; • Excellent interpersonal, communications and relationship building skills with colleagues and clients at all levels; • Strong written communication skills, excellent attention to detail and high standards of accuracy; • Ability to work well in a team • Good analytical skills; • Languages are preferred but not essential; and • Must maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct, adhere to legal and regulatory requirements and follow Lazard policies and procedures.
