Technical Optimiser - Based across our South West areas covering Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley.
Location: Based across our South West areas covering Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley and based out of our Smithy Wood, Chapeltown and Sheffield depots.
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
Salary: £41,668 to £52,085 depending on experience.
Annual incentive bonus: up to £1,000 maximum.

Field Operations role
The Technical Optimiser will organise and coordinate resources to deliver complex jobs, including proactive network operation, maintenance activity, operational risk assessments, and supervision of network interventions. Tasks include responding quickly to network failures, driving performance against targets such as Customer Minutes Lost, Water Quality, and CMEX, and quality control auditing for the field teams.

* The Technical Optimiser is fully aware and trained in Health & Safety requirements for water network operations, including highway, confined spaces, and lone working.
* You coach and train team members to deliver excellent performance and link individual performance to company strategic objectives.
* You understand the financial implications of Repair and Maintenance work, balancing risk and cost to deliver cost‑effective solutions.
* You partner with R&M teams to support efficient delivery of promoted activity, aiming to reduce cost of failure.
* You provide high‑quality customer service, resolving issues on first visit when possible and escalating appropriately.
* You ensure compliance with Retail competition, the Water Act, and Market Codes.
* You operate and optimise the distribution network, making risk‑based decisions on supply/demand.
* You participate in a regional standby rota once trained.
Skills & qualifications you will need:
* In‑depth technical knowledge of the network and complex jobs such as trunk mains repairs requiring system changes.
* Advanced hydraulics training.
* Strong coaching skills to develop and mentor junior team members.
* Understanding of business plan integration and output delivery.
* Experience delivering against challenging upper quartile business targets and performance commitments.
* Effective internal and external relationship building.
* Positive approach to change across technology, process and organisational areas.
* Excellent customer service skills, both internal and external.
You will also benefit from having:
* Coaching skill courses attended.
* Experience in a commercially oriented and/or regulated environment.
* Experience within water, wastewater, utilities, process or manufacturing sectors.
* Technical understanding of water network and assets.
* HNC in engineering or related qualification.
* Project management experience.
* Knowledge of Water Regulations and Plumbing.
