A world-class manufacturer of model railway products, PECO was established in 1946 and is a forward-looking family company with a long tradition of innovative thinking. Located in the picturesque village of Beer in East Devon, we produce high specification, technically superior model railway track, accessories and rolling stock from scratch in our factory. From the get-go, PECO has been proud to build and hone all our manufacturing skills ‘in-house’ and our market-leading products and publications are distributed to railway enthusiasts, businesses and retailers in more than 30 countries across the globe. As a company we have experienced significant growth over recent years enabling us to expand production, and we now have a team of 160 people. A bit about the role


At PECO we are proud of our family heritage and our reputation for precision engineering and high-quality products. Our engineers and toolmakers are at the centre of our strategic plans to grow PECO through enabling new product development, and market diversification. Unique these days, we have an in-house toolroom housing a team of c12 highly skilled engineers responsible for the end-to-end manufacture of our products, and the design and production of the tools to make our products too! At PECO we design, create, manufacture, pack and ship all our products, so this is a rare opportunity to see a project through from start to finish, and to ensure your ideas really do shape our future.

Our engineering innovation team has grown through a commitment to internal development and succession planning – from our apprentices through to our senior engineers – and we are able and willing to share our knowledge and skills. Over time we have invested heavily in technology to enable us to remain competitive, and as a result we have state of the art high specification, high quality equipment. Whilst we are looking for a skilled person, experienced in working in a toolroom, we are keen to hear from anyone with a true passion for learning new and different skills. Our experienced engineers are ready and willing to share their knowledge to develop anyone joining the toolroom, so you really don’t need to know it all!


Role responsibilities include

· Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and engineering specifications to design press and mould tools

· Operate machinery, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to create precision parts

· Assemble and fit precision parts together to create custom tools

· Test and adjust tools to ensure they meet specifications for size, shape, and tolerances

· Perform routine maintenance and repairs on tools to keep them in good working order

· Collaborate with engineers and other departments to identify tool needs and develop solutions

· Document/keep appropriate records of tool designs and specifications for future reference

· Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards

· Work collaboratively to produce new tools from drawings and be involved in the design of tooling

· Performing Preventative Maintenance in order to minimise unplanned downtime
