Job Overview
The Basildon Academies are looking for an exceptional Teacher of Performing Arts to join our Lower Academy. The applicant will be an enthusiastic and dedicated music specialist with a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Responsibilities
* Deliver a broad, ambitious and engaging KS3 Performing Arts curriculum comprising 80% Music and 20% Drama, with all KS3 students receiving one Performing Arts lesson per week.
* Teach and develop students’ skills in composition, performance, keyboard, ukulele, notation, and music literacy, demonstrating strong practical musicianship across a range of genres and styles.
* Support the school’s Music Mark School status by engaging students in band, choir, brass band, music summer school and other community events.
* Collaborate within the Performing Arts team and share best practice, including the SSAT Embedding Formative Assessment CPD programme and NPQ courses.
Qualifications
* Music specialist, ideally with teaching experience in a KS3 KS4/5 environment.
* Excellent understanding of musical theory, performance and composition across a range of genres.
* Ability to support students to gain GCSE Music nominations and future pathways.
* Subject to DBS and health checks.
Benefits & Working Conditions
Salary: £35,317 – £54,063 (M1 – AL3 Academy Qualified Teachers Scale). Contract: 0.4 days. Position available September 2026. The Lower Academy specialises in Key Stage 3 pedagogy across two sites and provides dedicated music rooms, rehearsal rooms and a drama studio.
