Job Opportunity: Private Sector Housing Technician / Environmental Health Technical Officer
Hourly Rate: £17.85 – £21.38 (Technician) | £21.77 – £23.37 (EHO)
Duration: 12 weeks
Hours: 37 per week (full time)
Location: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office (training period office-based) Welwyn Hatfield
We are seeking either a Private Sector Housing Technician or an Environmental Health Officer to join our Public Realm Team on a temporary basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in housing standards while developing your expertise within a supportive team environment. You will be part of a busy Private Sector Housing Team, investigating complaints, inspecting sites, licensing HMOs, and supporting colleagues in delivering key housing services.
Responsibilities
* Carrying out HHSRS inspections and enforcement.
* Undertaking HMO licensing inspections to ensure compliance with housing standards.
* Assessing empty properties and working with owners to bring them back into use.
* Supporting landlord accreditation and ensuring student accommodation meets standards.
* Assisting with grant delivery (desirable but not essential).
* Enforcing legislation, including:
o Housing Act 2004
o HMO Management Regulations
o Housing & Planning Act 2016
o Environmental Protection Act 1990
o Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014
o Building Act 1984
Requirements
* Proven experience in housing enforcement or environmental health.
* Ability to manage a varied workload in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong knowledge of relevant housing and environmental legislation.
* Current driving licence and access to a vehicle with relevant insurance.
* Flexibility to undertake monitoring visits outside of standard working hours.
