Are you passionate about building great software, working with smart and motivated software engineers, and solving incredible technical challenges? Then this opportunity is for you! We are looking for Software Development Engineers for our offices in the Thames Valley. The Team: We're a small, independent team inside AWS building and operating our services to bring stability, automation and performance to the most popular AWS services. We're looking for true "Dev" and "Ops" people with a healthy dose of "Net" and "Code". You might have come from a traditional "Sys Admin" role, but have a solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals and the ability to dive deep into code to find and fix issues, as well as building their own software systems that are more than just scripts. You may also be Software Engineers who have a passion for not just building software, but seeing it all the way through the lifecycle into production, and then owning the day-to-day operations of a deployed system. Regardless of your background, the ideal person will be passionate about building and running large scale services, will have experience with software engineering, Linux server administration, and excellent troubleshooting skills. Key job responsibilities A software engineer at Amazon will have technical ownership of designs and services, and will influence good coding practices among peers. Responsibilities will include designing, coding, reviewing, testing, fixing, researching, deploying and maintaining services and code in Amazon cloud production environments. Successful candidates will be experienced software engineers who can prioritize well, are good team players, develop at a high standard, can deal with new and ambiguous problem domains, and have a consistent track record of delivery. A day in the life At Amazon our software engineers take ownership of solution design, turn it into code and deliver it on schedule, using appropriate technologies and current software engineering best practices. They are expected to collaborate with their team and across teams to take responsibility for improvements and building of new tooling, features, services and applications. Amazon software engineers have the responsibility of building, maintaining and running the software they own including the dependencies of their team’s software, hardware platform, operating system and build. They may also be part of an on-call rotation within their team and, in the event of problems, are able to troubleshoot, research the root cause and thoroughly resolve defects.
