Description: Key responsibilities: o Contribute to the delivery of new mammalian expression hosts and vector systems for the expression of complex therapeutic proteins. o Engineer mammalian cell lines (e.g. Stable cell line generation, targeted integration and gene editing e.g. CRISPR-based systems). o Generate mammalian expression vectors using state of the art assembly techniques. o Phenotypic characterisation of edited cell lines with relevant assays (e.g. NGS, ddPCR, qPCR and flow cytometry) and cell culture techniques (e.g., shake flask/ bioreactor). o Collate, analyse, evaluate and sign-off data to produce good quality information and traceable records under the direction of the project lead. o Presentation of results in written and oral reports. o Work closely with other groups within R&D to deliver solutions or improvements in recombinant protein?in particular with R&D Process Development & Protein Analytics) o Actively keep abreast of relevant academic literature (e.g., in the field of cell engineering and expression technologies). o Contribute ideas and opinions to scientific discussions to aid the development of new technologies. o Working both individually and as a team player - working with a high degree of flexibility. o Execute studies in support of technology or process development projects. o Supports development of study plans. o Maintains accurate and timely records to appropriate quality standards for self and team, prepares high quality data summaries. Key requirements: o BSc/MSc Degree in Life Sciences / Science/ Molecular Biology o Practical experience within in an industrial/academic setting is desirable. o Good technical background in molecular biology (Electrophoresis, PCR, vector construction) and cell culture (preferably mammalian cells) with the aim of developing or manipulating mammalian expression systems. o Clear demonstration of strong technical skills, scientific execution and data analysis. o A proactive attitude to working and solving challenging problems. o Good working knowledge of statistics and expertise in design of experiments. o Experience of cell line engineering, ideally with CRISPR-based systems would be an advantage and highly desirable. o Good understanding of synthetic biology technologies would be desirable.
