The Housing Officer will provide flexible, responsive housing management support across Ipswich Borough Council’s housing stock, ensuring tenants receive high-quality services and assistance to maintain their tenancies. This role is designed to adapt to changing service needs and priorities, offering targeted support where demand is greatest.


Initial Priority

* Tenant Support: Providing practical and emotional support to residents affected by the decant process, ensuring clear communication and guidance throughout.
* Rehousing Coordination: Assisting tenants in identifying suitable alternative accommodation, managing transfers, and liaising with internal teams and external partners to facilitate smooth moves.

* Service Continuity: Maintaining a strong presence within Sheltered Housing communities to address concerns, resolve issues promptly, and uphold the Council’s commitment to tenant wellbeing.


Core Responsibilities

* Deliver housing management services across general needs and specialist housing, including tenancy management, ASB, income management, and estate management.
* Act as a point of contact for tenants, providing advice on housing-related matters and signposting to support services where appropriate.
* Respond to emerging priorities within the Housing Service (Tenancy Services), offering flexible cover and expertise across different areas as required.
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, maintaining accurate records and reporting outcomes.


Skills and Attributes

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with tenants during periods of change.
* Problem-solving ability and resilience in managing complex situations sensitively.
* Knowledge of housing legislation and tenancy management best practice.
* Ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.

This role offers the successful applicant an opportunity to build and develop a new or existing career in Housing Management. Your days and weeks will be diverse and varied, with the flexibility to manage your own calendar to best suit the needs of tenants within your allocated round (patch). A mix of site visits, office-based duty and working from home will provide a modern “hybrid” approach to achieving a responsive and objective‑focused role.

You will engage with local communities and Councillors to understand the needs of the neighbourhoods you will be managing. You will also work hand‑in‑hand with your Neighbourhood Team Manager and our Tenant Participation Officer to deliver annual community events, and help shape our service delivery collaboratively with the wider team. As an effective Housing Officer, you will also engage with various partnership agencies to assist and ensure the safety of tenants within your allocated round.

Hours of work are 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. DBS clearance is required for this role. This post is offered on a full‑time, permanent basis.
