Position
Civil and Structural Engineer Industrial Placement
If you want work experience that really counts, consider a Civil and Structural Engineer placement with Phillips 66. We’re seeking a student currently studying — or recently graduated with — a degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline to join us for a one-year industrial placement starting in summer 2026.
Responsibilities
Throughout the industrial placement you’ll provide discipline support and technical expertise, contribute to short and long-term strategic planning, support during turnaround activities, assist in the development and implementation of new projects. You’ll also support the asset management of a wide range of civil infrastructure, including structures, stacks, silos, cooling towers, bridges, roads, rail systems and drainage networks. You will act as a focal point for civil and structural related issues for the refinery and associated sites.
As a Civil and Structural Engineering placement student, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of civil and structural schemes. You will be involved in all stages of the project - from initial development, through to detailed design, costing, procurement and installation. You will collaborate with our experienced professionals to contribute to the design, maintenance and development of critical infrastructure, supporting both new projects and asset integrity updates.
Should you do well during your time with us, you may be considered for a graduate position upon completion of your degree.
Qualifications and Education
* You are a motivated and proactive student who relishes a challenge, as well as having an interest in Civil and Structural Engineering in the Energy sector.
* Working towards a minimum 2:1 in civil and/or structural engineering (or a similar approved qualification, HND) - (we will also consider recent graduates)
* Good engineering/technical knowledge
* We really value previous work experience gained through industrial summer placements, internships, and work experience. Tell us about this if you have it, particularly where you have developed your teamwork, organisation, and problem-solving skills.

Our Process

Assessment days will be held at our Humber Refinery the week commencing 24 November 2025 and may include an overnight stay and dinner with experienced engineers (reasonable travel expenses and overnight accommodation will be provided).
The Humber Refinery is part of the UK’s decarbonisation efforts and plays a role in Humber Zero, a project to reduce UK industrial carbon emissions. The refinery is also the UK’s only refiner producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel at scale and the only European facility producing battery anode coke.
