The job itself

We are looking for a bright, engaging, and reliable Personal Assistant to support a vibrant 16-year-old young lady with Down Syndrome. This is a rewarding, active, and varied role for someone who is caring, confident, and ready to make a genuine difference.

About the Role

This position involves supporting a fun, sociable teenager to enjoy life to the fullest while continuing to build her independence and confidence. No two days are the same.

Activities may include:

1. Trips to the cinema.
2. Ten-pin bowling.
3. Adventure golf.
4. Days out at the seaside.
5. Local outings and community activities.
6. Exploring new hobbies and interests.

You will also play an important role in supporting her at key events in her life.

This may include:

7. Chaperoning and supporting her at her dance events and performances.
8. Helping her attend important activities and social events.
9. Supporting her to build independence skills, such as learning to use buses and trains confidently without relying on her parents.

The role is about encouraging independence, building confidence, and ensuring she has positive, engaging experiences both socially and in her personal development.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

10. Has an empathetic and caring nature, but can also be firm and consistent when needed.
11. Brings a positive, youthful energy and outlook.
12. Can confidently handle a teenager who can occasionally be a little sassy.
13. Is flexible and adaptable.
14. Is proactive and not afraid to suggest new activities, ideas, or opportunities.
15. Is patient, understanding, and able to set appropriate boundaries.
16. Is reliable and committed.

A calm but confident personality is essential - someone who can balance warmth with clear guidance while promoting independence.

Requirements

17. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
18. Full driving licence and access to a car.
19. Ability to support travel on public transport.
20. Previous experience with young people or individuals with additional needs is desirable but not essential - the right attitude is key.

What We Offer

21. A meaningful and enjoyable role.
22. The opportunity to build a genuine connection.
23. Varied, active, and rewarding days out.
24. A supportive family environment.

If you are motivated, kind, resilient, flexible, and ready to support a fantastic young person to enjoy her teenage years while growing in independence, we would love to hear from you.

DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority.
