🚋 Track Asset Manager - Railway
Full-time | Permanent | £55,000 – £60,000 | East Midlands
GTS are seeking an experienced Track Asset Manager to join its senior engineering leadership team. This is a critical role responsible for the strategic management, maintenance, and renewal of track assets, supporting safe, reliable, and high-performing passenger operations.
This position is well suited to a hands-on track or permanent way professional who is comfortable leading a small internal team while managing a significant portfolio of third-party contractors and suppliers.
🔧 The Role
As Track Asset Manager, you will take full accountability for the performance, safety, and lifecycle management of track-related assets, including track infrastructure, points machines, and points heating systems.
Key responsibilities include:
* Developing and delivering the annual track maintenance and renewal plan
* Carrying out site inspections, condition assessments, and technical reviews
* Planning and delivering major maintenance works and renewals, including preparation of RAMS, work plans, and supporting documentation
* Ensuring compliance with CDM regulations, safety standards, and relevant regulations
* Managing and overseeing third-party contractors and suppliers, including specification, procurement, and performance management of technically complex works
* Developing maintenance strategies, lifecycle cost models, and asset management plans
* Controlling and reporting on maintenance, renewals, and refurbishment budgets
* Providing technical leadership, guidance, and training within the engineering function
* Monitoring and improving ride quality, noise, and vibration performance
* Providing on-call technical support outside normal working hours to respond to incidents and urgent track issues
This role forms part of the senior management team and contributes to long-term asset strategy and continuous improvement across the network.
👤 About You – Candidate Requirements
We are looking for a confident and credible track engineering leader with experience operating in contractor-led environments.
You will ideally have:
* A strong background in track / permanent way / rail infrastructure engineering would be ideal but not essential.
* Proven experience in track asset management, including maintenance and renewal activities
* Experience managing maintenance and renewals budgets, with accountability for cost control and value delivery
* Extensive experience managing multiple third-party contractors and suppliers, often delivering the majority of works externally
* Ability to specify, procure, and technically assure outsourced engineering works
* Experience working with small internal teams, retaining overall technical, safety, and commercial accountability
* Strong project management skills, delivering work safely, on time, and within budget
* Ability to interpret and produce technical documentation, drawings, standards, and regulations
* A practical, hands-on approach with experience in:
* Site inspections
* Incident response
* Balancing reactive maintenance with long-term asset strategy
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including engagement at senior management level
* Good IT capability, including Office 365, project management tools, basic CAD, and the ability to learn bespoke asset management systems
