Equipment Library Technician

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the Clinical Engineering Department at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (DCHFT).
We have two vacancies, and the successful applicants will be part of a small team of technicians providing an effective and efficient Medical Equipment Library Service.
You will help to manage the medical devices held in the Library, delivering and collecting devices from around the hospital and providing effective device cleaning between each use.
No specific qualifications are required for this role as comprehensive in‑house training will be provided.
The service operates Monday to Saturday between 07:00 and 16:00; some Saturday working will be required on rotation.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will support the day‑to‑day operations of an efficient, effective and comprehensive Medical Equipment Library (MEL) at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post is primarily to support equipment management processes within the department including booking in of equipment, cleaning, functional checking and audits of medical equipment. The Medical Equipment Library loans a variety of medical devices to clinical areas for use in patient care and treatment and aims to maximise the usage of devices held, ensuring their availability and fitness for use to aid patient safety.
* Final decontamination and simple functional tests on all MEL devices.
* Organise MEL requests and everyday deliveries and collections.
* Maintain accurate records of activity.
* Work to a high standard of safety and accountability within the MEL protocols and procedures.
* First assessment on faulty equipment and minor repairs.
* Liaise with clinical, technical staff and managers.
* Provide technical support for clinical staff.
Person Specification
Education and Training
* Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent.
* Formal course in use of Microsoft Office packages especially Word, Excel and Access.
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience working within a team.
* Previous employment in a customer orientated setting.
* Previous experience of word and database entry.
Skills and Abilities
* Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to organise workload using own initiative.
* Highly motivated.
* Accuracy with numbers to record statistics and format information.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Ability to cover a large hospital site.
