Job Description
Senior Engineer / Engineering Lead | Milton Keynes | up to £50,000 | PermanentThe Opportunity
This is a "foundational" leadership role designed for a high-calibre Mechanical Engineer who is ready to move beyond day-to-day tasks and step into a position of genuine technical authority. Our client is a leading European specialist in the manufacture and maintenance of internal rail door systems. Their UK operation is currently undergoing a major transformation, with revenue nearly doubling year-on-year and a move into a brand-new facility underway.
We need a Senior Engineer to anchor the engineering function. You will be the technical "fixer" and strategist for the UK site, bridging the gap between the workshop floor, international design headquarters, and major UK rail operators. This is your chance to move from being a "cog in the machine" to the person who defines the standards, processes, and engineering direction of a rapidly scaling organisation.
Responsibilities:
* Technical Authority: Act as the lead decision-maker for all mechanical systems, modifications, repairs, and overhaul activities within the UK business.
* Process Ownership: Design and embed standardised engineering processes, including Engineering Change (ECN), documentation control, and quality approvals.
* Customer Solutions: Lead technical investigations and root-cause analysis, acting as the face of engineering during high-level customer meetings and reviews.
* Product Innovation: Provide a "feedback loop" to international manufacturing and design teams, using real-world operational insights to influence future product improvements.
* Operational Leadership: Support the workshop and field service teams with hands-on guidance, ensuring all work meets rigorous safety and regulatory standards.
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a technically gifted Mechanical Engineer who is comfortable being assertive and making high-stakes decisions. You should be someone who values structure and wants to leave a "legacy" by professionalising an engineering function.
* Qualification: HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Experience: Proven background in a maintenance, overhaul, or safety-critical environment (e.g., Rail, Aerospace, Automotive, or heavy machinery).
* Skills: Strong mechanical capability (bearings, lubrication, assemblies) combined with a solutions-focused approach to customer queries.
* Mindset: A self-starter who is happy to work across departments and take full ownership of technical outcomes.
Location:
Milton Keynes
Salary:
Up to £50,000 + Benefits (Including international travel opportunities)
