PORTWEST, a leading global manufacturer of safety wear, workwear and PPE is currently seeking applications for the position of IT Support Technician – Tier 2 in Thurnscoe, Rotheram on a full-time permanent basis, reporting to the IT Services Manager. Job Summary
We are seeking a technically capable and motivated Tier 2 IT Support Technician to join our on-site team in Rotherham. This onsite role combines mid-level user and network support with hands-on infrastructure maintenance. You will provide frontline support to local warehouse operations and collaborate with global IT teams to ensure consistency in server, network, and system administration.
As our business continues to scale, this role is crucial in ensuring IT systems remain robust, secure, and aligned with global standards. While this is not a specialist automation role, the successful candidate will be trained as a backup super user to assist with warehouse automation systems as needed.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide advanced first and second-line support to local and remote users.
* Troubleshoot hardware, OS, software, and peripheral issues (laptops, printers, mobile).
* Take ownership of support tickets and drive timely resolution.
* Escalate complex incidents appropriately while ensuring users are informed.
* Support and maintain Windows Server environments, including Hyper-V hosts and virtual machines.
* Perform day-to-day administration of Hyper-V, such as:
* Creating, modifying, and monitoring VMs
* Managing snapshots/checkpoints
* Configuring virtual switches and storage
* Assist with routine server patching, backup validation, and infrastructure documentation.
* Collaborate with global IT to align local infrastructure with corporate standards.
* Provide basic support for Linux-based systems, particularly in environments where Linux may be used in automation or backend tooling.
* Train as a backup super user for the Automated Warehouse (WH) facility.
* Assist in troubleshooting and continuity planning during automation system issues.
* Liaise with WH operations and other trained users to provide support coverage when needed.
* Support and administer the Microsoft 365 suite (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive).
* Maintain SharePoint sites and user access.
* Ensure endpoint security, compliance, and system stability.
* Assist in the delivery of small IT infrastructure projects (hardware refreshes, server migrations, network changes).
* Participate in rollouts and pilot deployments, including documentation and feedback.
* Maintain IT asset records, change logs, and procedural documentation.
Requirements
* Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a Tier 2 IT support role.
* Strong hands-on experience with:
* Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365
* Windows Server administration and Hyper-V (VMs, storage, networking)
* Network troubleshooting (VLANs, switches, firewalls, DHCP/DNS)
* Familiarity with Linux command-line environments and system navigation.
* Comfortable with server patching, basic scripting, and backup/recovery procedures.
* Strong communication and self-management skills in an on-site support environment.
Desirable
* Exposure to automation, logistics, or industrial/warehouse environments.
* Experience with endpoint management (Intune, SCCM).
* Knowledge of backup solutions (Veeam, Windows Server Backup).
* Certifications: CompTIA Network+/Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure/M365 Fundamentals, or Linux+ (a plus).
