Overview
Our client is seeking an Automation Engineer with advanced expertise in PLC control systems to join their team. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and applying the company's control technologies to both new and existing high-speed plastic packaging equipment. The Automation Engineer will also provide technical support to nearly 100 facilities worldwide through remote troubleshooting and on-site visits. Regular travel will be required for equipment startups, retrofits, and technical support.
Responsibilities
* Design and implement electrical control systems for high-speed packaging equipment.
* Configure and set up industrial PCs and PLC I/O.
* Modify and enhance HMI and PLC software to meet project requirements.
* Lead system startup, debugging, and troubleshooting activities.
* Conduct cross-functional problem-solving using PDCA methodology.
* Analyze complex controls issues and deliver effective solutions across global facilities.
* Review plant feedback to identify improvement opportunities and recommend technical innovations.
* Create bills of material and electrical schematics using AutoCAD for control panel design and manufacturing.
* Develop documentation and coordinate panel construction with vendors.
* Establish and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for automation projects.
* Implement sensors and software to capture, analyze, and optimize machine performance data.
* Provide remote technical support via phone and internet to plant facilities.
* Mentor and guide less experienced team members.
* Travel as needed to support startups, retrofits, and troubleshooting.
Qualifications
Core Skills & Proficiencies
* Advanced knowledge of electrical control systems, troubleshooting, hydraulics, and electro-mechanical systems.
* Expertise in PID control (functionality and tuning).
* Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills for mid- to large-scale projects.
* Proficiency in AC and DC drives, including:
* Yaskawa, ABB, Emerson, Siemens, Bardac
* Advanced PLC programming experience, including:
* Beckhoff, B&R, Allen Bradley, Automation Direct, Siemens
* Advanced HMI programming experience, including:
* Indusoft, Wonderware, Allen Bradley, Ignition
* Knowledge of servo drives and controls.
* Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent 2D schematic CAD software.
* Familiarity with NEC, NFPA70E, and UL508A standards for control panel design.
* Proficiency in Factory OT and best practices for industrial control systems.
Education & Experience
* Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in machine controls within a manufacturing environment or in deploying industrial control systems.
