Job Title: Commercial Manager
As a Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for managing the business unit's budget, focusing on cost control and profitability. You will oversee key client relationships, identify growth opportunities, and contribute innovative ideas to secure new business. Your role involves analyzing data, preparing insightful reports to identify cost savings and profit opportunities, staying updated on regulatory changes, and leading bids and negotiations for contractors involved in the Hinkley Point C project.
You will supervise the site administration team, ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. Collaborating closely with the Operations Manager, you will ensure the timely, on-budget, and high-standard delivery of the Waste Contract at Hinkley Point C.
Join us in a landmark project at Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station. Biffa's Specialist Services Industrial Division has secured the waste management contract for this major development in Suffolk, which is expected to last 9 to 12 years. Initially, our team will manage the contract directly from the client's site, overseeing collections, subcontractors, reporting, invoicing, and waste consultancy, with operations eventually moving to a purpose-built Waste Consolidation Centre.
Core Responsibilities
1. Drive profitable, long-term contracts within agreed pricing frameworks.
2. Own the project's finances and deliver monthly commercial performance updates.
3. Lead full contract P&L management to achieve year-on-year growth.
4. Produce accurate reports to inform business decisions.
5. Partner with teams to deliver innovative recycling solutions.
6. Ensure site operations meet service, financial, and KPI targets.
7. Negotiate contracts and ensure compliance with all agreements.
8. Maintain accurate and compliant site administration.
Qualifications and Experience
* A-Level/Degree with NEBOSH or IOSH General Certificate; business or waste management qualifications (CoTC desirable).
* Proven experience in sales, marketing, tender preparation, contract negotiation, operational improvement, and P&L management.
* Strong knowledge of service delivery, waste laws, and environmental and H&S legislation.
* Understanding of recovered commodities markets to maximize value.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams, and BI data extraction.
* Desirable: business degree, professional or sales qualifications, production management, construction site experience.
