Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Machinist / Engineering Technician to join our workshop team. The successful candidate will support the manufacture, repair, upgrade, and refurbishment of mechanical components, machine attachments, and rail-related engineering systems. This is a hands-on role requiring strong practical ability, attention to detail, and the confidence to make sound decisions during day-to-day engineering tasks.
Responsibilities
* Operate manual machine tools, including turning, milling, and drilling machines, to manufacture and modify components to specification
* Dismantle, inspect, and assemble mechanical parts and attachments, diagnosing faults and carrying out rectification works as required
* Carry out welding and fabrication tasks, producing and repairing steel components and structural elements
* Work collaboratively within a team-based workshop environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to efficient workflow
* Make practical, informed decisions during work activities to maintain quality, safety, and productivity
* Follow engineering drawings, job instructions, and company procedures accurately
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area in line with HSE and company standards
* Support testing and quality checks prior to return of equipment to service
Skills & Qualifications
* Engineering or machining qualification (NVQ, SVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
* Experience in rail, heavy plant, or industrial engineering environments
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
* Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious
* Positive, professional attitude
* Strong attention to detail and pride in work
* Willingness to learn and develop within a growing engineering business
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £18.00 per hour
