Contract Type: Permanent
The Role:
An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to emergencies and engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs until their pager sounds, then they become professional firefighters.
The work may be called ‘part-time’, but on-call firefighters are trained and experienced, saving lives and protecting people and assets. They are paid, trained thoroughly, and learn about emergency situations and personal skills.
On-call firefighters come from all community areas, including men and women in full or part-time employment, self-employed, students, or unemployed. They dedicate their time to assist the fire and rescue service and protect communities.
This is a demanding role, but offers the chance to make a real contribution. You will work closely with team members, especially during emergencies, and participate in community events.
On-call firefighters respond to various situations beyond fires, including community fire safety, flooding, co-responding, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescues.
Previous Experience: No prior experience needed as training is provided. Enthusiasm and meeting certain requirements are essential. You must be able to reach the fire station quickly and safely after being alerted. Physical fitness is crucial due to the demanding nature of the role.
Note: To apply, you must live or work within 4 minutes of the fire station; otherwise, your application will be rejected.
