The starting salary for this permanent, full-time position is £47,142 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

We're excited to be hiring a Senior Transport Officer (Digital Demand Responsive Transport) to join our fantastic Passenger Transport Projects Team based at Victoria Gate in Woking. This role is open to hybrid working and as a team we split our time between collaborating with colleagues in the office for a minimum of two days a week and working from home or remotely.

About the Role

Surrey County Council is looking for a motivated and forward thinking Senior Transport Officer to support the delivery, development and expansion of our innovative and popular Surrey Connect Digital Demand Responsive Transport (DDRT) services. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the future of sustainable travel across the county, improving accessibility for our residents and helping to reduce social and geographical isolation.

You will take a leading role in monitoring, contract management, service performance, and the day to day operational oversight of our Surrey Connect on Demand Transport Network which is operated by up to 28 electric minibuses and delivered by three not for profit community transport providers.

Your key responsibilities as our Senior Transport Officer will include:

10. Overseeing and managing the Surrey Connect DDRT services, ensuring high-quality, efficient and reliable operation
11. Working closely with transport providers, vehicle suppliers, software scheduling partners, maintenance contractors and local communities
12. Leading the rollout of future phases of the Surrey Connect programme
13. Monitoring performance data, producing reports, and identifying opportunities for service improvements, passenger growth and operational efficiencies
14. Supporting financial management of the DDRT revenue budget
15. Identifying and implementing new ways to enhance customer experience and maximise best value for money
16. Supporting strategic planning and providing expert advice on passenger transport and DDRT across the Council
17. Building strong partnerships with internal teams, the public, and external organisations including central government, bus operators, local authorities, and other stakeholders

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with :

18. A degree (transport, engineering, planning, geography, ICT, economics, environment, or similar) OR equivalent relevant experience
19. Experience working directly with public transport operators, including a good understanding of relevant legislation and operational practice
20. Skilled in contract and contractor management
21. Analytical, organised and confident using data to inform decisions
22. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence partners, build relationships and deliver service improvements
23. Comfortable managing multiple technical projects simultaneously
24. Customer focused, adaptable and committed to delivering high quality services
