Location: Belfast Workplace: Hybrid
The opportunity: We are looking for a Paralegal to join our highly-regarded Intellectual Property team at Baker McKenzie, Belfast. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing support to the Firm's Intellectual Property practice. We handle high volumes of IP prosecution, maintenance, and transactional work in a deadline-driven environment. You will work on rapidly developing IP portfolios of household names with worldwide coverage, requiring a global mindset and the ability to grasp different regional requirements. The role involves collaborating with diverse teams across the globe, including technology teams, paralegals, lawyers, and partners. The successful candidate will support senior professionals and be relied upon for accurate and efficient work.

Main responsibilities: Your primary role is to support the Firm's Global IP practice, including:
1. Handling technical trademark formalities such as pre-registration, prosecution, maintenance, renewal, and post-registration steps, managing complex issues, and seeking guidance when necessary.
2. Preparing client reports independently.
3. Supporting global IP M&A activities, including recording assignments, licenses, security interests, and changes at local registries. This involves drafting legal documents, liaising with local counsel, and coordinating document execution.
4. Conducting comprehensive IP asset due diligence using official registries and screening platforms, auditing data from various sources with minimal supervision.
5. Supporting global anti-counterfeiting initiatives, including drafting product guides, seizure notifications, and liaising with infringers.
6. Performing trademark searches and drafting high-quality search reports.
7. Providing trademark watching services.
8. Developing legal knowledge and skills to support lawyers and clients effectively.
Services and process standards: Collaborate with global teams to follow procedures, implement processes, meet service standards, and manage workload and deadlines effectively. Proactively communicate potential delays and ensure compliance with firm policies.
Essential criteria: Relevant undergraduate degree (2.1 or above preferred), legal background with IP/trademark experience (preferred), authorization to work in the UK, passion for IP, and eagerness to develop expertise.
Desirable criteria: CITMA qualification is advantageous.
Personal & Technical Skills: High standards, attention to detail, organization, proactive attitude, initiative, independence, calmness under pressure, clear writing, responsibility management, team collaboration, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills.
