Hourly rate of pay: £16.14 – £17.24
Days and Hours of Work
Monday – Friday, 09:00–17:00. Flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible. To start as soon as possible.
Location
This post will be based at John Muir House, Haddington, with flexibility for remote working as part of a hybrid arrangement. Training will be office based and IT equipment will be provided.
Purpose of the Role
The purpose of this role is to assess and make decisions on claims for the Scottish Welfare Fund, including Crisis Grants and Community Care Grants. The successful candidate will help reduce poverty and inequalities through the delivery of an efficient and effective Financial Support service and will help build financial resilience within our communities, working closely with other Council services and external agencies to deliver a joined‑up approach.
Responsibilities
* Assess and make decisions on claims for the Scottish Welfare Fund, including Crisis Grants and Community Care Grants.
* Deliver a high‑quality and efficient financial support service.
* Collaborate with Council services and external agencies to deliver a joined‑up approach.
* Contribute to service improvement work and support the development of the Financial Support team.
Qualifications and Experience
* A good understanding of the UK and Scottish welfare systems is essential.
* Highly motivated with experience working within a customer‑focused welfare environment, having worked with vulnerable people in adverse social circumstances.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal sensitively with customers facing financial hardship.
* Confidence using Microsoft Office applications and Council IT systems.
* Educated to ‘Higher’ level, NC or SVQ2 or equivalent, or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through previous experience.
* A full current driving licence is desirable.
* Level 1 Disclosure Clearance: ELC will submit a Police Act Disclosure application and receipt of the certificate will be required prior to commencement.
* If you have spent more than 3 months working or living outside the UK in the last 5 years, you must present a copy of an overseas criminal record check.
Home / Hybrid Working Consideration
Applications for home or hybrid working will be considered in accordance with East Lothian Council’s Home Working and Worksmart Policies. All home/hybrid workers must live in the UK. Where an application is supported, it will be subject to a satisfactory trial period. Employees will be expected to attend Council offices for induction and be on site in East Lothian workplaces as required.
