Matron & Physical Health Lead Nurse for NCfMH
We have an opportunity for a Senior Nurse to work as a Matron and Physical Health Lead Nurse at Newham Centre for Mental Health (Adult Inpatients).
They will act as an expert in their field and lead and/or participate in initiatives to improve standards of care for people with complex physical and mental health problems with the inpatients services based at Newham Centre for Mental Health (seven acute mental health wards), to including taking part in service improvement, quality improvement, service performance and promoting evidence-based practice.
The post holder will ideally work to a job plan that mirrors the Advanced Clinical Practice pillars – therefore the ideal candidate will be an ACP already or a trainee ACP already well established into the ACP training programme.
The post holder will support the delivery of policy generation, governance, delivering clinical outcomes, providing clinical leadership to achieve a quality, evidence based service, and excellence in clinical practice. This together with continuous professional development are integral to the role and development of services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
Provide Matron substantive cover for one inpatient ward at NCfMH (Ivory Ward)
Develop and implement the highest quality innovative clinical practice within NCfMH
Have oversight of Physical health provision within NCfMH, aiming to reduce morbidity from complex and long-term conditions and provide specialist mental health support for patients with complex, chronic mental health problems
Provide specialist advice within the field of expertise concerning the care and treatment of people with complex and/or chronic physical and mental health problems admitted to NCfMH
Develop health promotion and prevention initiatives that comprehensively assess and manage patients with high risk factors and vulnerabilities.
Draw on a diverse range of knowledge in decision-making to support the establishment of correct diagnoses and implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions, which will include other therapies and prescribing medication where legislation permits and within sphere of competence.
Actively monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and report on outcomes
Provide leadership by setting a clear direction on Physical health provision within NCfMH, to support planning and the delivery high of quality care for patients with complex and/or chronic conditions and leading discussions regarding requirements of the service, ensuring an innovative and high-quality service is delivered to patients

1. Registered Nurse (Mental Health) OR Registered Nurse (Learning Difficulty) OR Registered Nurse (Adult)
2. Masters qualification or equivalent experience
3. Advanced Clinical Practitioner or Trainee ACP
Desirable criteria
4. Evidence of Leadership / Management Training
5. Specialist Area Training
6. Relevant teaching or assessing qualification

7. Experience of working as a clinical lead in a mental health environment at band 7 level or above
8. Evidence of quality improvement
9. Experience of leading and working with a multidisciplinary teams
