Description Can you turn data complexity into clarity by building innovative solutions that power smarter decisions? As a Senior Data Engineer you will work in the Digital Directorate, in the Data Platforms team within the Data for Research, Platforms and Legislation Unit. You will report to the Head of Platforms and work to create and maintain different types of data model such as relational, dimensional and graph. Looking at innovative ways to implement appropriate technologies, from an approved portfolio, to deliver innovative, scalable and future proofed data solutions. The Data Platform team provides services to the rest of the Scottish Government Analytical team providing access to additional tools, supporting the analysts, that are not available in the General Scots build. These tools are the Analytical Data Management (ADM) and the Analytical Workbench (AWB). You will be expected to spend a portion of your time engaging with your DDaT specialist community, for example attending community knowledge exchanges, and providing technical peer support of various kinds. Responsibilities Undertake data profiling and source system analysis. Present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data and proactively seek new opportunities to gain value from data. Source system analysis from multiple complex sources and bring multiple data sources together in a conformed model for analysis. Design, build and test data products that are complex or large scale. Respond to problems in databases, data processes, data products and services as they occur. Initiating actions, monitor services and identify trends to resolve problems. Determine the appropriate remedy and assist with its implementation, and with preventative measures. Leads on designs and patterns for reuse and can generate synthetic test data as required. Collaborate with others to review specifications where appropriate. Design, amend and code programmes or scripts which meet user stories and requirements. Code, amend and refactor complex programs / scripts in accordance with the design. Experience: You have used agreed standards and tools to design, code, test, correct and document programs and scripts to deliver reproduceable and automated data systems. You have reviewed requirements and specifications and have defined test conditions that enable the development of data products and identified associated risks. You have responded to problems in data, data processes, data products and the services as they occur. Experience is assessed at sift, along with a more in-depth assessment at interview.
