Lead Commissioning Engineer – Energy from Waste Location: Cheshire Based Full-time / Monday - Friday Role Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Commissioning Engineer to oversee the commissioning phase of a large-scale Energy from Waste (EfW) facility. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely transition from construction to full operational readiness. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, coordinate with contractors and stakeholders, and ensure all systems are tested, validated, and handed over in accordance with project specifications and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities Lead the planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical, and control systems. Develop and manage commissioning schedules, procedures, and risk assessments. Interface with EPC contractors, OEMs, and client representatives to ensure alignment on commissioning strategy and milestones. Supervise functional testing, performance verification, and troubleshooting of plant systems including boilers, turbines, flue gas treatment, and auxiliary equipment. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards throughout commissioning. Manage punch lists, system handovers, and final acceptance documentation. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to commissioning engineers and technicians. Report progress, issues, and KPIs to project management and senior stakeholders. Qualifications & Experience Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering (or equivalent). Proven experience in commissioning large industrial or energy facilities, ideally within EfW, power generation, or process industries. Strong understanding of process control systems, instrumentation, and safety systems. Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills. Familiarity with commissioning software, documentation standards, and regulatory frameworks. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to evolving project demands.
