Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Driver/Escort to transport individuals with additional support needs, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being during transit. The role requires an individual who can provide both driving services and emotional support, acting as a trusted companion while ensuring the passengers are treated with respect and dignity.
Key Responsibilities:
* Transporting Passengers:
Drive service users to and from their homes to Ucan in a safe and timely manner.
* Providing Escort Services:
Assist individuals with boarding and disembarking from the vehicle, providing any necessary support or guidance throughout the journey.
* Ensuring Safety and Comfort:
Ensure that all passengers are securely fastened in the vehicle and follow safety protocols. Monitor the vehicle environment for comfort and make any adjustments as necessary.
* Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs:
Provide the necessary support to individuals with additional needs (e.g., learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health challenges) to ensure their well-being and comfort during the trip.
* Communication and Coordination:
Communicate clearly and empathetically with passengers to understand their needs and provide support. Collaborate with family members, caregivers, or other staff as necessary to ensure the needs of the individual are met.
* Vehicle Maintenance:
Conduct pre-journey checks on the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition (e.g., checking tires, fuel, safety features). Report any maintenance or safety issues promptly.
* Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of journeys, including details such as times, passenger conditions, and any incidents that may occur. Report any concerns or incidents to Team Leaders in a timely manner.
* Adhering to Policies and Procedures:
Follow all relevant safety protocols, local regulations, and organisational policies while transporting individuals. Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of all passengers.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
* Full, clean driving license (Must have D1)
* Experience working with individuals with additional support needs whilst not essential is desirable.
* Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and respect when interacting with individuals with additional needs.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
* Basic understanding of safety procedures related to transporting vulnerable individuals.
* Physical ability to assist passengers with mobility needs, including helping them enter and exit the vehicle.
* Reliable and punctual, with the ability to follow schedules.
* Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing circumstances and individual needs.

Working Conditions:
* The role involves driving in a variety of conditions and locations.
* Some physical effort is required, including helping passengers with mobility needs.
* This position is for 2.5 hours split over a day and will involve early mornings and evenings to reflect the delivery of our daily service which operates from 9am to 4pm.
