Job Description
Due to our News Editor being promoted internally, we are looking to recruit. This is a management role with primary responsibility for keeping Utility Week at the front of the news agenda via a combination of off-diary news, first class contacts and incisive analysis. It is a fast paced and demanding role for an individual looking to make a name for themselves on the one of the biggest beats nationally. We are looking for a news editor who leads from the front and still has a hunger to deliver scoops and beat other publications to the biggest stories.
Our ideal News Editor will have previous experience on a newsdesk with a culture of breaking off-diary news (as opposed to following up press releases). They must have strong experience of making contacts, standing up off-diary leads, developing analysis and leading the news agenda.
Ideally, they will have:
* Proven track record of breaking off diary news (a proven story-getter)Proven ability to make high level contacts and use these to break exclusive stories and write incisive analysis
* Ability to work under pressure – motivated by and committed to meeting deadlines
* Good intellectual ability as they will need to get to grips with the complexities of utilities markets and policy/regulation
* Experience of desking copy and managing reporters
