Join a leading consultancy as a Mainframe Platform Engineer supporting a major financial services client.
As a Mainframe Platform Engineer, you'll work on the delivery, optimisation and support of z/OS Mainframe environments, helping to modernise and streamline Mainframe operations. You'll be part of a collaborative team driving automation, stability and continuous improvement across critical banking systems.

Location: Manchester (up to 3 times per week on-site)
Contract Length: Until 31/12/2026
Rate: £375 per day via umbrella
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement and oversee tooling and automation to streamline build, development and release processes.
Act as a technical SME for CICS and z/OS Mainframe environments, providing expert guidance.
Support environment management including CICS resource definitions, configuration and subsystem oversight.
Collaborate closely with developers, testers and architects to improve Mainframe delivery workflows.
Monitor live Mainframe services, identifying opportunities for optimisation and proactive improvement.
Assist with incident resolution, offering insights and challenge during 3rd‑party investigations.
Ensure compliance with governance, change and release management processes.
Key Requirements
Advanced practical experience in a CICS Technical role within a z/OS Mainframe environment.
Strong understanding of Mainframe technologies such as REXX, JCL, TSO/ISPF, VSAM, and mainframe utilities.
Experience supporting or implementing DevOps practices within Mainframe environments.
Working knowledge of z/OS Connect API delivery, MQ, Endevor administration and GIT (advantageous).
Ability to produce high‑quality technical documentation and mentor junior team members.
Broad experience across Mainframe subsystems, scheduling tools (CA‑7, CA‑11, CA‑OPS/MVS), and diagnostic tools.
