About the Role
GSL Events is seeking a motivated and versatile Event Technician to join our growing team. This is a hands-on, full-time role offering the chance to work on a diverse mix of events across the UK. Including, theatre productions, festivals, private functions, and touring shows.
Due to the nature of live event work, flexibility is essential – including availability for evening and weekend work. The role is based on annualised hours, offering flexibility during quieter periods.
Key Responsibilities:
* Set up and operate sound, lighting, staging, video, and power systems
* Engineer live events (e.g. FOH or LX ops)
* Work on event sites nationwide and assist with prep and de-rig at HQ
* Drive company vehicles to and from event locations (including vans and Luton box trucks)
* Lead and supervise small freelance teams on site when required
* Maintain and repair technical equipment
* Build and test cables for both internal stock and customer orders
* Assist with warehouse organisation and general maintenance
* Represent the company professionally on site with clients and venues
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
* Technically confident with a practical, hands-on approach
* Calm under pressure and solutions-focused
* A team player, but also comfortable working independently
* Organised and proactive with excellent attention to detail
* Flexible with working hours and location
* Comfortable driving long distances and staying away from home when needed
* Strong skill set in either sound or lighting (both is ideal)
* Ability to manage small teams during set-ups and shows
* Experience with live event environments and touring setups
* Confident in basic equipment repair and fault-finding
* A full UK driving licence (essential – B+E or C1 an advantage)
* Right to work in the UK
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
Experience (any one of the following):
* Degree in Technical Production + 3 years’ industry experience
* Level 3 qualification in a related field + 3 years’ industry experience
* 5 years’ on-site experience in live events
Technical Knowledge:
* Familiarity with Chamsys and ETC Eos lighting systems
* Experience using Allen & Heath SQ Series or similar digital audio consoles
* Proficiency in QLab programming and show control
* IPAF/PASMA/Manual Handling/Working at Height certifications (desirable)
Future Progression
This position is offered as an initial 6-month contract, with a view to becoming permanent. The right candidate will have the opportunity to develop into a Project Manager role within 12–18 months, taking on greater responsibility in planning, delivery, and client liaison on larger projects.
