Teachers are responsible for educating classes of young people and teaching them the national curriculum. While this is the main part of a teacher's job, their responsibilities also include:
* Planning of lessons and associated administration
* Ensure lesson plans meet the school and national curriculum models
* Manage student behaviour
* Manage after school clubs and activities as required
* Liaise with parents regarding individual student progress
* Provide a positive, safe learning environment for students
* Develop working knowledge of area of expertise to keep up with educational trends
Teachers generally need the following skills and qualifications:
* Degree or higher in specialist educational area
* PGCE
* Empathy
* Able to work to deadlines
* Adaptable
* Able to manage relationships with teachers, students and parents
* Behaviour management
* Able to motivate a class
* Integrity
* A desire to see young people succeed
