️ General Operative – City & Neighbourhood Services (Belfast City Council) Location: Stockmans Lane, Belfast BT9 7JB ⏰ Hours: 37 per week Positions: 1 Rates: PAY: £13.47 per hour Working pattern: Monday–Thursday 07:30–15:30 Friday 07:30–15:00 About the Role Prime Recruitment Services is recruiting on behalf of Belfast City Council for a General Operative within the City & Neighbourhood Services Department. This is a hands-on, outdoor-focused role involving cleansing, waste collection, grounds maintenance, and general manual labour across streets, parks, open spaces, playing fields and council facilities. You may work individually or as part of a wider team and will play a key part in maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the city. Key Responsibilities ♻️ Cleansing / Waste Collection Collect and load domestic, commercial and priority waste safely and efficiently. Inspect waste and recycling for contamination before and after collection. Identify and report premises presenting waste incorrectly. Clean up spillages, loose waste and maintain high standards of cleanliness. Report damaged containers, access issues and unfinished routes. Use equipment safely: lifts, tail lifts, weighing systems, brushes, shovels, power washers, gum machines etc. Assist mechanical sweepers and cleanse litter bins, gullies and public realm areas. Support snow clearance, leaf collection and gritting. Gardening & Grounds Maintenance Planting, grass cutting, hedge cutting, pruning and turfing. Operate powered tools and equipment (mowers, strimmers, etc). Assist with horticultural schemes, soil preparation and landscaping. Apply pest and weed control chemicals safely. Maintain games areas: spiking, scarifying, top-dressing, marking pitches, erecting posts. Keep sites safe, orderly and secure for public use. General Duties Start/finish at designated depots and access gates/buildings using keys and alarms. Clean grounds and buildings: sweeping, raking, mopping, litter removal, moving equipment. Issue tickets/collect money where required. Use radios/telecoms to communicate with team, supervisors, public, and emergency services. Maintain accurate records, incident reports and documentation. Assist with data collection (manual or digital). Adhere to all Health & Safety requirements, using correct PPE and safe lifting methods. Assist drivers in safe manoeuvring of vehicles. Provide excellent customer care and represent the Council positively. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required. ✔️ Essential Criteria Applicants must have at least 1 year’s relevant experience in: a) Dealing with members of the public b) Health & safety awareness — safe use of machinery/equipment OR correct PPE/manual handling
