Role Overview
We are looking for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team at the East Midlands head office in Nottingham.
In this apprenticeship role you will work closely with experienced Quantity Surveyors, develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the surveying field, and support the budgeting and cost management of our new homes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Develop a strong understanding of Quantity Surveying principles, practices, and procedures through on-the-job learning and training, supported by the regional Commercial team.
* Process subcontractor orders, invoice payments and variations using Excel and the Group ERP system – COINS, with the support and guidance of the project Quantity Surveyor.
* Attend developments and assist the Quantity Surveyor in carrying out the bi-monthly valuation process.
* Liaise with sub-contractors on day-to-day queries and assist the Quantity Surveyor with onsite subcontractor meetings.
* Assist with preparation of tenders and support the procurement of sub-contractors.
* Liaise with the development site teams and assist with day-to-day queries.
* Support the Quantity Surveyor with new site tenders, including preparing subcontractor tender analysis documents and accurate project costings.
* Create new site records on COINS.
* Assist with basic quantity take-offs and measurement tasks to support cost planning and estimating.
* Manage directly employed weekly payments for subcontractor trades.
* Attend bi-monthly valuation meetings and help formulate valuation packs.
* Update build cost documents and orders on the system following agreed price changes.
* Identify cost savings opportunities and assist with cost control.
Qualifications
* Five GCSEs including Maths and English grade 4 or above (Grade C) or an equivalent.
* Willingness to learn and undertake an agreed qualification alongside responsibilities.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
* Competent IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
* Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
* Ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, using initiative.
