Energy Engineer – Energy Consulting Team
Join our growing Energy team in Edinburgh’s Bread Street office near Edinburgh Castle, working in a hybrid environment.
Overview
As an Energy Engineer you will consult on energy use in individual buildings, developments and campuses, as well as international master‑planning projects and studies that directly influence national decarbonisation policies.
What sort of projects will I work on?
* Spatial analytics with mapping and big data – spatial energy planning and Local Area Energy Planning.
* Low‑carbon district energy feasibility studies and design, re‑configuring generation, distribution and use of energy across technologies including heat pumps.
* Campus and major‑site master‑planning studies – modelling, designing and helping clients transition to net‑zero carbon.
* Building retrofit – evaluating cost‑effective reuse versus new build.
* Town and city‑wide heat network assessments and studies influencing UK heat‑network policy.
* Projects throughout the lifecycle, from research to concept to detailed design and implementation.
What will I do?
* Contribute to live projects from the start, advising clients, engineers, architects and urban planners.
* Lead district‑energy projects and master‑plan developments including load calculations and renewable technologies.
* Attend client meetings and manage your workload.
* Undertake testing, reporting and presentations; think creatively to solve engineering problems.
* Engage in Energy team activities and contribute to our online presence and technical development.
About You
You will be responsible for detailed analysis, reporting, planning graduate‑level staff tasks, project management and client relationships.
Required Skills, Education and Experience
* Knowledge of UK and Scottish energy policy and regulatory drivers.
* Technical awareness of low‑carbon technologies and district energy components.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Energy‑related engineering degree or environmental science with spatial analytical skills, working towards professional registration.
* Experience with building energy systems, performance standards and economic modelling.
* Minimum 2 years in a related field.
Desirable Skills
* Site‑visit experience assessing existing systems.
* Experience developing detailed campus‑scale feasibility studies.
* Economic modelling of energy systems.
* CIBSE Heat Network Consultant CP1 2020 knowledge.
* Client or owner’s engineer experience overseeing district‑energy delivery.
* Energy modelling with MS Excel, Python, Grasshopper, FME or similar.
* Energy Pro or similar modelling software.
* Revit and/or AutoCAD familiarity.
* Graphic design and presentation skills.
* Problem‑solving and bespoke methodology development.
