About Clinical Coding
Ever wondered how a hospital keeps track of everything it does – every surgery, every diagnosis, every patient treated? Clinical Coding is the answer. We’re offering two exciting opportunities for enthusiastic individuals to begin their journey into this vital, skilled, and rewarding career.
Why Coding Matters
Clinical Coders are the hidden heroes of hospital life. They turn complex medical notes into national codes that tell the story of every patient’s care.
* Ensure hospitals get the correct funding for the treatments they provide.
* Help the NHS plan services and spot health trends.
* Keep patient records accurate and future‑proof.
Wrong coding can cost money, misallocate services and compromise patient records. That’s why we need detail‑driven people who take pride in getting things right.
What you’ll do
* Gather and organise patient notes and discharge lists.
* Track down missing documentation.
* Assist with essential admin and data entry.
* Help ensure the right information is in place so coders can work accurately and efficiently.
What you’ll learn
* Understand medical terminology and conditions.
* Apply national coding standards.
* Build strong analytical and investigative skills.
* Work towards a nationally recognised qualification in Clinical Coding.
Career progression
Once you have passed training and meet internal standards, you progress to Band 3 where you prepare for the National Clinical Coding Exam. Pass that, and you advance to Band 4 – Senior Clinical Coding Officer.
