3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
The Youth Justice Service Officer will work within a multi-disciplinary Youth Offending Service to help prevent and reduce offending behaviour among young people. The role involves managing a caseload of young offenders across community and custodial settings, undertaking assessments and interventions, and working collaboratively with partner agencies to support positive outcomes and reduce reoffending.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of young people subject to community and custodial sentences.
* Undertake assessments, intervention planning, reviews, and risk management activities.
* Work directly with young offenders to support rehabilitation and diversion from offending behaviour.
* Prepare reports, assessments, and court documentation to required standards.
* Liaise with courts, partner agencies, and multi-disciplinary professionals to coordinate support plans.
* Conduct home visits and travel across the county as required by the role.
* Work collaboratively with specialist colleagues across areas including substance misuse, psychology, accommodation, victims, education, training, and employment.
* Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
* Contribute to safeguarding and public protection responsibilities within the service.
Requirements
* Qualification at diploma level or above in a relevant subject such as Social Work, Youth Work, Probation, or equivalent.
* Experience working with young offenders or within youth justice services.
* Experience of working with courts, offender management, and partner agencies.
* Strong skills in risk assessment, report writing, and intervention planning.
* Ability to manage challenging and sensitive casework effectively.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Full driving licence and willingness to undertake travel across the county for home visits and service delivery.

* Hours per week: 37 hours
* Payment schedule: Bi-weekly payments
* Contract duration: Approximately 3 months
* Location: Hybrid working based in the Cambridge area, with office attendance once per week and county-wide travel required
