The Environment Agency is looking for a fixed‑term Energy Advisor to support regulation of combustion, waste incineration and refinery sectors. The role lasts up to 2 years, with potential for renewal. The position requires expertise in energy sector regulation, stakeholder engagement and incident response.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
 * Develop strategy for the energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other industry players.
 * Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during an incident.
Experience and Skills Required
 * Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and actively encourage consideration of diversity issues.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of regulating or working within combustion plants, waste incineration or refineries, including control measures for emissions to air.
 * Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government agencies, trade bodies and academia.
 * Cooperative teamwork to achieve common goals.
