Job Description
The Environment Agency’s East Anglia (West) Groundwater and Contaminated Land team protects and enhances groundwater quality and quantity in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Norfolk. The role involves responding to customer consultations, providing local groundwater information and advice, and supporting groundwater discharge permitting and risk assessments. Work is conducted as part of a multidisciplinary team, with the flexibility to work part‑time or full‑time and a hybrid working arrangement available.
Responsibilities
* Respond to internal and external customer enquiries regarding groundwater quality, sensitivity and risks.
* Interpret geology, groundwater quality and other relevant data to provide professional technical responses.
* Support groundwater discharge permitting, including pre‑application advice and permitting procedures.
* Assist with groundwater risk assessments for existing permitted sites.
* Provide specialist advice on groundwater quality (monitoring, improvement plans and discharge permits) and contaminated land (risk assessment and remediation).
* Assist other regimes such as groundwater risk and Water Resources as required.
* Engage with incident management processes as part of incident response duties.
* Attend training and induction sessions, and acquire any specialist or further training needed.
Essential Qualifications
* Relevant scientific degree or equivalent.
* Deep technical knowledge enabling authoritative presentation of scientific evidence.
* Judgement and experience to handle routine issues and seek advice on more complex problems.
Desirable but Not Essential
* Hydrogeological qualification.
* Professional membership in a relevant area.
* Understanding of incident management.
Learning and Development

Location and Working Pattern
Based in Brampton or Huntingdon (Brampton Office), the role offers hybrid working options and occasional travel and overnights. Flexible working patterns, including job share, are supported.

Additional Information
