Job Summary
Multicultural Richmond is seeking a part‑time Mental Health Officer to support the delivery of our established community mental health and psychosocial wellbeing programme. The role focuses on raising awareness, reducing stigma, and improving access to support for both existing and new service users. You will build strong relationships with community organisations and local projects to promote mental health awareness and wellbeing across diverse communities in the Borough of Richmond.
Key Responsibilities
1. Community Engagement and Relationship Building:
o Form strong connections with local Richmond Borough community organisations to raise awareness about mental health issues and reduce stigma.
o Promote mental health services and provide information to existing and new service users.
o Develop relationships, build and maintain trust with participants, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment.
o Provide a safe space in the community for people presenting with mental health problems that may require interventions.
o Collaborate with existing mental health and physical health services, educational institutions, multicultural faith communities, and other community organisations to address the health needs of Richmond Borough’s ethnic minority communities in a culturally competent and inclusive manner.
o Work with local BME communities to facilitate early access to mental health support.
o Deliver one‑to‑one psychosocial support and group wellbeing activities using a trauma‑informed, culturally sensitive approach.
o Carry out holistic assessments and co‑develop personalised support plans tailored to individual needs.
o Support individuals to build confidence, resilience and stronger community connections.
o Maintain accurate records, follow safeguarding procedures, and contribute to monitoring and continuous improvement.
2. Event Organisation and Facilitation:
o Facilitate existing wellbeing groups, workshops and community sessions.
o Organise mental health events and information sessions, inviting experts to talk and present to service users.
o Facilitate wellbeing workshops, support groups and mental health awareness activities at all events and in inclusive, safe and culturally appropriate group spaces.
o Plan and coordinate mental health awareness activities and events during the year.
3. Promotion and Advocacy:
o Promote mental health issues and available services using all available channels.
o Help individuals from all socioeconomic backgrounds within minority communities become aware of and access mental health services.
o Adopt a holistic approach to mental health, emphasising the interconnectedness of physical, mental, and social well‑being.
4. Collaboration and Development:
o Learn from existing collaborations with voluntary organisations to deliver effective strategies and achieve project outcomes.
o Represent Multicultural Richmond in local networks where needed.
o Support coordination and information‑sharing across services.
o Contribute to evaluation and impact reporting, delivering good practice and providing input into reports for funders and partners.
