Job summary
Applications are invited for a Specialist Doctor in Rehabilitation Medicine to join the well-established Rehabilitation Medicine department currently based at West Park Hospital in Wolverhampton. This is a supra-district service which provides both neurological rehabilitation, Stroke rehabilitation and general rehabilitation for Older Adults. The catchment area includes patients from Wolverhampton CCG and other neighboring CCGs.
The rehabilitation services based at West Park Hospital consist of.
You will join a team of three full-time Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine and a Consultant Geriatrician who work closely with the acute stroke, Older Adult Medicine and acute Neurology services based at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton. The service is also supported by a full-time middle grade doctor and clinical fellows. West Park Hospital is a training unit approved by West Park Deanery and hence the new Consultant will have opportunity to participate in the training of the Registrars/ST grade doctors. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be on the GMC specialist register or be a speciality trainee within six months of their CCST date at the time of interview.
Main duties of the job
The main duty of the post holder would be to provide medical support to the inpatient service with opportunities to work in our specialist outpatientclinics and with the community team.
1. Contribution to day to day management of medical problems andrehabilitation of inpatients.
2. The post holder will be expected to join the existing on-call rota alongwith colleagues from care of the elderly. The current on-call commitments do not extend beyond 7pm on a week day and 1pm on weekends. The middle grade doctor can seek advice and support from the acute medical on-call team based at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton as well as from NRU Consultants.
3. Responsibility for correspondence: this includes investigation results;admission, progress and discharge summaries of inpatients; letters ofpatients seen in clinics etc.
4. Participation in supervision and support for junior medical staff attached to NRU.
5. Participation in assessment of patients referred from acute and otherhospitals and community.
6. Contribution to liaison with other hospitals, trusts, districts, statutoryservices and other agencies.
7. Participation in audit, training and educational programmes inDirectorate and the Trust.
8. Participate in preparation of strategic development plans for specialist rehabilitation in Wolverhampton.

18. Qualifications - Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC MRCP (UK) or equivalent On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of interview
19. Experience - Wide experience in Older Adult Medicine and Rehabilitation specialty and general medical experience
20. Ability/Skills - Able to communicate effectively with the patients and their families Able to work collaboratively and respectfully with the team
21. Research & Audit - Evidence of audit and quality improvement and the implementation of change following the audit

22. Qualification - Higher Medical Degree
23. Experience - Subspecialty training or equivalent
24. Ability/Skills - Specific training in patient safety and human factors
25. Research & Audit - Relevant research published in peer review journal
